Biography:
Timothy Verstraeten graduated as BSc in Computer Science at the University of Antwerp in 2013, and as MSc in Computer Science with a specialisation in Artificial Intelligence at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 2015. He obtained his PhD degree at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in March 2021. Currently, he works as a postdoctoral researcher at the Acoustics and Vibration Research Group, OWI-Lab and the Artificial Intelligence Lab.
In his PhD project, he focussed on the application of reinforcement learning in wind farm control, exploiting fleet-wide data exchange and loosely-coupled coordination among wind turbines to speed up the control optimization process.
His research topics include a variety of applications of machine learning and modeling techniques in the context performance monitoring, condition monitoring and control of wind farms, as well as fundamental work in reinforcement learning, multi-armed bandits, transfer learning and Gaussian processes.
